Migration
Leaving Shopify is more common than Shopify's marketing suggests. Transaction fees at scale, data ownership concerns, and UK-specific integration gaps are the most common reasons. We handle the full migration.
Start Your MigrationShopify charges 0.5%-2% on top of payment processor fees when using external gateways. At £250k/year revenue, that's £1,250-£5,000 per year in pure platform tax. WooCommerce charges nothing on top of your payment processor.
Your Shopify store data -- orders, customers, product history -- lives on Shopify's servers. Export options are limited, and full data portability requires Shopify's cooperation. With WooCommerce, it's your data on your server.
MTD compliance on Shopify requires third-party apps and workarounds that WooCommerce handles natively through integrations with Xero, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent.
Shopify B2B -- trade accounts, tiered pricing, minimum orders, invoice terms -- requires Shopify Plus at £2,000+/month. WooCommerce handles all of this on any plan.
Essential functionality on Shopify requires apps. Abandoned cart, product reviews, subscriptions, advanced SEO, loyalty programmes -- each is a monthly subscription. The same functionality is free or cheap on WooCommerce.
Shopify Payments has UK limitations. Klarna UK, Clearpay, regional bank transfers, and PayPoint all have better WooCommerce integration than Shopify.
A Shopify-to-WooCommerce migration is more involved than a host-to-host migration because you're moving between platforms, not just servers. Here's what we handle:
Data export from Shopify
Products (including variants, images, and descriptions), customer records, order history, and any blog content.
WooCommerce setup
Fresh WordPress and WooCommerce installation on WP Pro Host, configured with UK-appropriate settings, payment gateways, and shipping zones.
Data import and mapping
Products, customers, and orders imported into WooCommerce. URL structure matched to your Shopify URLs to preserve SEO equity, with 301 redirects for anything that changes.
Theme and design
Your Shopify theme doesn't transfer directly -- WooCommerce uses a different theme system. We can replicate your design on a WooCommerce-compatible theme, or work with your developer on a new theme.
Integration setup
Payment gateways, email marketing, accounting software, and any third-party tools reconnected on WooCommerce.
Testing and DNS cutover
Full order flow tested on staging before going live. DNS transitioned with Shopify store kept live until propagation confirms.
Important: Theme migration
Shopify and WooCommerce use different theme systems -- your Shopify theme cannot be directly ported. We can recommend WooCommerce-compatible themes that match your design direction, or work with your developer if you have one. For stores with highly customised Shopify themes, budget for theme development work as part of the migration project.
Tell us about your store -- products, order volume, and any integrations -- and we'll outline what the migration involves.
